This is the 2nd Edward Lee novel that I've read, the first being City Infernal. While I liked Monstrosity somewhat better, that's not saying a lot since I didn't really care for City Infernal. I like Lee's short fiction a lot better than his novels. His female characters don't ring true. This novel isn't too bad if you treat it like a cheesy B movie--there are experiments, mutants, and killings galore. Oh, and Lee always throws in an ample amount of sex.

From the back cover:
Blue skies, palm trees, and flawless white-sand beaches. Clare Prentiss thinks her new home is paradise, and her brand new job as security chief at the clinic almost seems too good to be true. It is. But the truth is worse than she could ever imagine.

Lurid dreams, erotic obsessions, and twisted fantasies aren't the only things that abruptly invade Clare's life. Is someone really peeping into her windows at night? Yes. Could those grotesque things in the woods possibly be real? Yes. Is Clare being stalked? Yes. But not by anything human. By a monstrosity.

Over 6 years later, and I have finally read this book! I actually quite enjoyed it, but then I have only read a few of Lee's work, and none (yet) of his old-school stuff. Kept me guessing, especially the prologue, I just kept wondering how that would fit into the storyline, and well, he managed to tell us just fine. I will set this free soon!

I actually found this book at the Washington DC airport. I'd only rate it fair because it was really predictable, but entertaining nonetheless. Its a really quick read - only a couple of evenings. Can't say that I was enthused enough to read any more of Lee's books. I dropped it off in a local Starbuck's.
