Farewell To The East End: The Last Days of the East End Midwives
3 journalers for this copy...
Donated by my Mother (thanks Mum!), here's a short synopsys from the link;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Farewell-East-End-Last-Midwives;
"This final book in Jennifer Worth's memories of her time as a midwife in London's East end brings her story full circle. As always there are heartbreaking stories such as the family devastated by tuberculosis and a ship's woman who 'serviced' the entire crew, as well as plenty of humour and warmth, such as the tale of two women who shared the same husband!
Other stories cover backstreet abortions, the changing life of the docklands, infanticide, as well as the lives of the inhabitants of Nonnatus House. We discover what happens with the gauche debutant Chummy and her equally gauche policeman; will Sister Monica Joan continue her life of crime?; will Sister Evangelina ever crack a smile? And what of Jennifer herself? The book not only details the final years of the tenements but also of Jennifer's journey as she moves on from the close community of nuns, and her life takes a new path."

Journal Entry 6 by JamesUK at Four-trunked Tree, outside Regular Forces Employment Association, 250 Springfield Road, CM2 6BU in Chelmsford, Essex United Kingdom on Friday, September 3, 2010
Released 13 yrs ago (9/3/2010 UTC) at Four-trunked Tree, outside Regular Forces Employment Association, 250 Springfield Road, CM2 6BU in Chelmsford, Essex United Kingdom
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Outside the main wooden entrance gates of the Regular Forces Employment Association building at 250 Springfield Road, Chelmsford, Essex, CM2 6BU, there's a odd-shaped four-trunk tree. It's got a small lee where the four trunks come "together" that faces away from the road, and looks ideal to leave a book in.
I'll be placing the book in this little space around 15:30 - 16:00 03/09/2010, wrapped in a plastic self-seal bag, and with a yellow "Travelling Book" Post-it note visible through the front of the bag.
You can see the tree in this Google Maps link, in the "Street View", just to the left of the wooden entrance gates;
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en& geocode=&q=Springfield+Road, +Chelmsford &sll=34.101451,-118.341991&sspn=0.009399,0.016136 &ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Springfield+Rd,+Chelmsford, +United+Kingdom&ll=51.741081,0.491842 &spn=0,0.004034 &t=h&z=18&iwloc=lyrftr:m,14943557241822821987,,&layer=c&cbll=51.741147,0.491988 &panoid=mr0TWl2sHZTytAiNoE5g0w &cbp=12,152.29,,0,5
You can click directly on this URL, but if you copy and paste it from the text above, you'll need to remove the extra spaces I had to include to get it wrap correctly.
I'll try and check it regularly, and if it disappears, I'll update the journal accordingly.

Still there, this morning @ 06:45 06/09/2010. ;-)
It's still in place as at 15/09/2010 @ 6:30am! Doesn't anyone want to come and get it? ;-)
It's gone! Checked last night; 20/09/2010 @ 16:45pm, and it's not there any more. Couldn't see it thrown down on the ground or anything, so here's hoping that someone did pick it up...

I really liked this book, it was an old fashioned down to earth real back street of london style. I found it an easy read and good to follow.
