My Review: I loved this book! I adore Rachel Gibson, she puts characters together who seem like oil and water and somehow by the end you can see how they are perfect for each other.

I like a wide variety of romances - but, oh my, hockey romances are the best. I like other sports types - football players or baseball - and have read some romances and other books (both nonfiction Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game or The Blind Side and fiction Shoeless Joe). But for some reason, hockey is the best (both nonfiction The Boys of Winter: The Untold Story of a Coach, a Dream, and the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team and fiction Beartown) and hockey romances...heavy sigh.
This one finds Mark Bressler - hockey forward extraordinaire - almost died the previous winter in an auto accident when he hit black ice. He survived, but has had a difficult recovery and is depressed, in pain, and angry at the loss of his abilities and career. He's run off a series of nursing aides sent by his hockey team. Chelsea - bit part / slasher movie actress - returns to Seattle to take a break from the Hollywood rat race. She shows up at Mark's home and tells him that the team has hired her as his personal assistant. She's determined to stick it out because there's a 10K bonus if she lasts 3 months and she's got plans for that money.
I love the banter between Mark and Chelsea (for example, Chelsea asks him, "Do you sit around and think up ways to be difficult or is it a natural reflex?" or Mark tests her by sending into the drugstore to buy him condoms, warming lube and a vibrating ring and some red licorice - he doesn't have a hot date; he's just trying to embarrass her into quitting.) They both are stubborn control freaks and neither one gives an inch. But eventually there's a truce and grudging respect which then starts sparks between them. It's a while until even the first kiss, but damn...and then it starts getting really steamy. You know where this is going, but the ride is oh-so-much fun.
