I bought this ages ago, as I had heard a lot of good things about it. Never read it though, but now I have finally gotten round to registering it so it won't be so easily forgotton.
This is definitely one of those books where I don't actually know if I loved it or hated it ... or where I fall in between.
On the good side? I love stories about secret societies, ancient secrets, artifacts and archaic rituals. Add in an Egyptian context, some timeslip and reincarnation, and I should be yours for the taking.
On the bad side? This book seriously needs an good editor. Long winded in places and slow to get going, there's whole chapters that are filler and don't move the story along at all. There's a lot of info dumping too, some of which seems to come out of nowhere, so I ended up going back a few pages to see if I'd missed anything. The characters are ok, but a bit one dimensional and the modern 'good' guides are a little too passive for my liking.
That said, once the stories got going, it was a good read and I devoured the last few chapters in one sitting to see how it would end. The one set in the past was slightly more interesting than the one set today, but they did complement each other well. Looking forward to starting the next one.
