Journal Entry 1 by wingTribefanwing from Raleigh, North Carolina USA on Saturday, June 19, 2010
Here at last in paperback is Frank McCourt's critically acclaimed and bestselling book about how his thirty-year teaching career shaped his second act as a writer. Teacher Man is also an urgent tribute to teachers everywhere. In bold and spirited prose featuring his irreverent wit and heartbreaking honesty, McCourt records the trials, triumphs and surprises of teaching in public high schools. Teacher Man shows McCourt developing his unparalleled ability to tell a great story as, five days a week, five periods per day, he works to gain the attention and respect of unruly, hormonally charged or indifferent adolescents.

For McCourt, storytelling itself is the source of salvation, and in Teacher Man the journey to redemption--and literary fame--is an exhilarating adventure.

Journal Entry 3 by wingbookczukwing at Charleston, South Carolina USA on Monday, August 23, 2010
This book traveled from Lakemore, Ohio, sent by the lovely Tribefan, to help restock the ever-hungry bookshelves of the Charleston and Mount Pleasant OBCZs. Thank you so much! Will re-release soon.

I've read this book before and my earlier journal entry said "My girlfriend, who passed the book along to me, didn't particularly like it. It's been fine for me- not something I'd rave about, but interesting none the less. Mostly about how McCourt got up the nerve to teach and how he charmed his students with his stories. In my fevered state last week, I kept mixing McCourt up with Pat Conroy and wondering why I never had heard of Conroy working on the docks."
