BANNED BOOK
Another in my banned books series. Granted, I have not read this. I saw the movie, and that alone wanted me to run to the shower and scrub myself with pumice. Terribly dreary, depressing stuff. But, hey, maybe the book is better. I'll let you submit your own report here on Bookcrossing.

I was in line to recieve this book as a bookray, but I'm glad I don't have to wait that long. Everything I've heard seems to lean towards this being a worthwhile read, but quite depressing - maybe I'll sandwich it between a few humorous books on Mount TBR.
This is one of those tales that I know will stick with me for a long time.

Dreary and depressing? perhaps. It has a bit of a 1984 flavor to it.

I know, it's not really free if you drive 65 miles to catch it, but it was just too much fun to make my first catch.
What would you get if you blended "Diary of a Young Girl" with "1984" and started from a point in the recent past? A compelling vision of a future that could have been possible from circumstances of mid-80s USA with an interestingly open-ended ending.
It pre-empted my other books-in-process; I couldn't put it down. I didn't find it completely dreary and depressing, probably because of my incorrigible optimism. I read hopefulness for the future (in spite of the story's opressive present-time) in the "Historical Notes". I also found it less depressing that the past which preceded the story's present-time is not the past we have actually experienced.
Planning to release in or near Bourbonnais, Illinois while traveling there at the end of April.
