Self-Made Man: One Woman''s Journey into Manhood and Back
3 journalers for this copy...
"Norah Vincent wanted to know what life was really like for men. Many women have long been convinced that men have it better, in every way. To find out for herself if this was actually true, and to see where the common perception fell short, Norah did it. For eighteen months she became a guy." (from the dust jacket flap)
Her experiences are illuminating, both for women and men. I think this is an important book for everyone to read. I was lucky enough to score several copies cheap...this is my last copy. A bookcrosser has requested it, and I am delighted to send it on its bookcrossing journey.

Thanks so much for sending this down - I'm going to have trouble disciplining myself to finish my current books before I read this!
Wow. A woman passes for a man to gain insight into male culture and what it means to be male in modern America. Much more insightful than the Mars/Venus analyses. Interesting to students of psychology, sociology, or Women's Studies. Especially valuable to curious men, loving wives, and caring mothers of sons. While it is true Vincent is not a scientist, she doesn't for one moment pretend to be, but instead repeatedly reminds that this is as much a memoir as it is an experiment. Thank you for sharing this!!

Received from Goodreads bookswap December 2010. My review: "Norah Vincent peels back the curtains to reveal...pretty much what we thought."
I'd forgotten this was a BC book. I should take it off the swap listing and release it.

Swapped it at an in-person book swap. I encouraged the new book-holder to log it here.
