We follow Patrick through three stages of his life. Firstly he is a child growing up in France with his alcoholic mother and abusive father. Then we move on to adulthood and his addiction to drugs which is pretty gruesome. Finally he has moved on and cleaned up. The ending was a bit of a damp squid and the book as a whole was ok but not one I'd read again.
