'Found this in (yet another!) neighbourhood box of books left out on a sunny day, no winter blizzard on the way. To bad the sleeve with that great Pelican is missing, but the contents are fine.
I loved "A Complicated Kindness" and look forward to reading this one. ("Kindness" did so well, that Toews, from a Mennonite background in Manitoba, Canada, is now writing a script for Hollywood. Way to go, Miriam!)

I enjoyed "A Complicated Kindness" but "enjoy" is not the right word for how I feel about this book.
I found some parts very sad and some parts hopeful. Certainly not as bitter as "Complicated". Miriam Toews really knows how to get inside the head of an 11 year old girl and her teen-age brother. They were so real to me - having a son and daughter myself in those "difficult" years.
