Picnic (Yaoi)

Purchased from Yaoi Club. I recently read my first Yaoi Manga and am hooked!
Great book! The stories were all a lot of fun. Lots of humor, sex, and a few quite touching moments.
There's a yaoi bookbox coming my way soon, so I wanted to make a point of moving some books off Mt. TBR. This was one of them. I read this book two days after I got my gallbladder out and needed something happy to distract me.
Another June manga, this one is a collection of different stories. The title story, Picnic, was actually my least favorite. I think it definitely lost something in translation. The characters seemed all over the place and I had some trouble following the story. I rather wish the author had ended with "sex in lavender fields" as originally planned, but I did like the bit about the watches.
I liked the other short stories in this volume more. "I Have an Excuse, Too" had a lot of passion in it. "But Sometimes You're Kind" was definitely my favorite, where a young, cold, homeless kid on the streets attaches himself to a handsome older gentleman and ends up melting his kind heart. Aww.

This book came home in the yaoi bookbox today. Since I enjoyed Yamada's work in Close the Last Door and Don't Blame Me, I'm looking forward to this one. Thanks!
Later: The title story was a bit too heavy on the "does he really want me?" bit, with both guys flunking their communication-skills all too often. There were some cute bits here and there, but overall it was my least favorite tale in this volume.
I liked the squabbling and humor (and sex) in "I Have an Excuse Too" and the other Oikawa/Hashimoto stories - those two have a nicely vitriolic relationship. And the "Whatever Happens" editor-couple was rather fun, though not as intense.
"But Sometimes You're Kind" was my favorite story here, with the street-kid/lost-soul aspects.

I'm adding this book to k00kaburra's manga bookbox, which will go in the mail on Monday. Hope someone enjoys it!

Wild released for AlterEgoZoe's Leap into the Wild Challenge...and for the victims in Orlando, because I don't believe fear is the answer, and I don't think violence is the answer either. Caring about other people matters. Trying to help others matters.
