Many people feel this book is dated. I found it quite interesting. At the time the book was written, there was no understanding of DNA or genetics, so instead the author talks about selective breeding and the perfect society in terms of chemical and hormonal enhancements. Given what we know now, the two are interchangeable and it does not detract from the underlying theme.

Apologies for the delay in journalling this book. I received it a few days and from what I have read so far, it looks like I will love it!

Thanks for sending me the book 1000petal!

Apologies for the late entry. I finished the book last week and I have to say I am still in between two minds as to what I think about it... Yes, the book is a bit dated but I do find the idea interesting - in a scary way - and although we have not reached (yet) this kind of society, I think it highlights how far things can go if we let consumerism dictate our lives. So from that point of view, I found the book really good. What annoyed me more is the writing itself. It may be linked to the fact that the book is a bit dated and maybe Huxley felt the need to explain his vision in a very simplistic way to touch people, but it made me feel like a was reading a book for children, which I don't think was the author's intention.

I am glad however that I finally got round to reading this book as I believe there are lessons to be, if not learned, at least reminded to the current society.

Thank you very much for sharing this book, 1000petal. I have the next participant's address so the book will be on its way shortly.

Finally finished reading the book. First thing that I can say is wow! In that time Huxley could really write that story. And I think there are so many things nowadays that brings world of "Brave New World" closer. 3D movies and planning to use scenting in merchandising reminds me of those "feelies".

Thanks for 1000petal for this ring so I could read the famous book. And sorry for delaying the ring and thanks for your patience. Book will continue its travel to Kingfan30.

I forgot this was on its way so a nice surprise when I got home this evening. I will get to it as soon as I can, thanks for sharing.

8 Aug 10 - I think I may be the odd one out here as I did not feel the book was dated, the concept felt quite modern. I enjoyed the book on the whole and am pleased to have read it. I certainly would not want to live in this world.

Thanks for sharing, I am strugglling to get hold of the next person as there is no PM option on their profile. I have left a message on the forums but if I have not heard anything in the next week or so I will contact the next person.

Shahrun had the option to PM turned off, tried the forums and Yahoo groups but no luck so it is now on its way to Kymmington, surface mail I'm afraid so it may take a bit longer.
