This is the 23rd discworld novel. I haven't read the discworld books in order (maybe thats sacriledge amongst big Pratchett fans) but i don't believe that the order affects the plot lines at all.
Once again in this book we meet some familiar characters, namely the witches, Granny Weatherwax (whom we meet early in the discworld novels), Nanny Ogg, Agnes Nitt and Magrat. And, as in all discworld novels, some new and highly interesting characters.
This book focusses around the vampires, or vampyres as they prefer to be called, who have moved into Lancre intent on taking over the kingdom. Everyone seems to be under their spell, perceiving them as charming new guests, but the witches, being witches, think differently and its up to them, along with Mightily Oats, the priest, (a great combination) to stop them.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Some parts made me laugh aloud, often prompting my partner to ask me what was so funny! The book is full of wit and subtle parodies and should amuse people of all ages. How Mr Pratchett keeps churning them out without them losing their charm is beyond me.
A great book!
