I really enjoyed this and I sure hope whoever gets it next will enjoy it just as much!

The Blurb:
"When Simon and Rebecca move to North Cornwall to live with their farther, the old sword which hangs above the fireplace in their hime seems as dull as their new school. But the sword is the key to a sinister and ancient secret, which has remained dormant for over a thousand years. A time honoured battle between good and evil is about to be reawakened, and the children find themselves in an enchanted world of both danger and adventure, as an action-packed, bitter struggle to preserve the sword begins.

Hauntin, eerie and magical. Somewhere between fantasy and truth.

The Sword Watchers is an unforgettable story . . ."

Just realised I hadn't posted when this arrived! Sorry, work has been crazy.

Anyway, I was not massively impressed by this book, I was expecting something like Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series, but this book is much simpler without much in the way of mystic resonance. In many ways the plot was a repetition of standard plots - a dark force trying to rise again, with various allies supporting it and thwarting the kids, as in The Dark is Rising or in Harry Potter, but this book didn't really convey to me the sense of a whole deeper imaginative world, unlike the wizarding world in J.K. Rowling's works or the Light and Dark behind Susan Cooper's works.
Plus while I think there were jokes in there, James Tonk's sense of humour must be different to mine, so I didn't feel very engaged with that.

But clearly, reading the journal entries here, many other people enjoy it, so I hope the next on the list does.

I have just received the book ... looking forward to reading it!
