Tobias MacIvey leaves Georgia with his wife Emma and son Zechariah arriving in Florida to swamp land, alligators and mosquitoes. Through all his hard and difficult times he builds an empire by buying prime south Florida land, planting orange groves and hearding cattle across the Florida cattle trails to the west coast to be sold. The book takes you through three generations of MacIvey's and their encounters with the Seminole Indians, the first railroad line to south Florida and up to the modern hotels on Miami beaches. This is a very good book with lots of non-stop action, love story's and tragedies as these pioneers make their way through everyday life.
