It’s 1969, and the times are changing. America is about to land a man on the moon, the Vietnamese war is in full swing, and racial tension is on the rise. Things just aren’t as simple as they used to be - at least, not for Rabbit Angstrom. His wife has left him with his teenage son, his job is under threat and his mother is dying. Suddenly, into his confused life - and home - comes Jill, an eighteen-year-old runaway who becomes his lover. But when she invites her friend to stay, a young black radical named Skeeter, the pair’s fragile harmony soon begins to fail …

Thank you so much for these books. I'm really looking forward to reading them xxxx
I really enjoyed this book...if you thought the first story was sleazy watch out, this one takes it up a notch! Rabbit/ Harry, really shocked me in this book, I never expected him to behave the way he did in front of his son, and I honestly thought he'd have been far more protective over him. Rabbit won me round again eventually and all in all I thought it was a fantastic read. Issues about racism came into the story in abundance, as well as the issues surrounding the Vietnam War...and Rabbit seems to trade places this time with Janet, it's her time to go off...and his time to lose someone that he's responsible for!
As well as some of the original characters from the first book a few more are thrown into the mix for Harry and family to interact with...again I must say, a book worthy of the 1001 list and in order to make sure I didn't get too caught up with the book and do some work for uni I had to be so firm with myself about how many pages to read etc so it took a while but I savoured each page!!

Sent to the next person on the spiral, enjoy!!!
Thanks Ekranda, will read asap!
Once again - I don't think 'enjoyed' is the right term for this book, it is sleazy in places & I was very shocked with what Rabbit let his son witness. He & Janice seem to just do what they want to do with no regard for Nelson. It is a good read though, a great story & characters & it deals with some difficult topics.
I have cross-patch's address, so this will be in the post tomorrow.
Thanks for sharing ekranda.

I think I'm starting to get Rabbit. There were even places I was rooting for him. His take on America and the Vietnam war and his interaction with Jill and Skeeter were fascinating. And the prose is often so beautiful.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
I have my fingers crossed that you will enjoy Rabbit No. 2.
It has arrived. I have several books on my Mount TBR before this one but I will try to read it quickly.
I am hoping that I will enjoy this more than Rabbit Run
I am hoping that I will enjoy this more than Rabbit Run
I thought an update on this book's status might be appreciated.
I plan to start this book tonight. I am going to give it 50-75 pages. If it is as torturous as Rabbit Run, I will send to ChiBroiler without finishing.
The best laid plans of mice and men do often go astray. I did not get this book started until last night. I did not get to read very far before sleep overtook me but I was interested in what was happening.
Nov 8: I would like to say that I have finished reading this book but I haven't. I have been working some crazy hours and had a family emergency this weekend. I will try to kick my reading into high gear.
Nov 14: Janice has left and Rabbit and Nelson went to Rabbit's mother's Bday celebration.
Nov 17: Rabbit joins Buck at a bar
Nov 18: Rabbit has met Jill
Nov 30: I am at page 230 or where Skeeter's Beatitudes are. I have been forcing myself to make this my primary book so I can finish it. I do fell this is better than the first novel but it still isn't the first book i would pick up.
Dec 2: I was doing so well forcing myself to read the book and then I had too much to do last night. I am within about 50 pages of being done. Hope to finish this weekend.

This was sooo much better than Rabbit Run but still not one of my favorite books or one that I would rush to recommend to other people. I am glad that I have finished it.
Sending to the next participant - I will drop at the PO on way home from work.

I got this book over the holidays but I am just now journalling it. I am reading a book now - but this is up next. Thanks for passing it on!
It was hard for me to believe, but the characters where even more unlikable in this book then the last. I found myself asking if people are really this stupid many times throughout the book. Poor Nelson, stuck with these two for parents!
released this one yesterday to angela861
I've started the book and am on page 9. I keep dozing off when I read it. I'll stick to it and try to get through it quickly. I really hope it is better than the last one!
Thanks for sharing!
Update: I realized I forgot to review this one. It was better than the first one but I really have a hard time liking the characters. I keep hoping they'll change but it never happens. Thanks again for sharing!

Collected from the post office today - with six (yep, 6) copies of a customs declaration. You Americans sure know how to waste paper!
I enjoyed this one. You've gotta wonder how stupid some people can be, but that's life! Can't wait to find out about Rabbit's life in ten years.
Will get this off to fushmush in tomorrow's mail.

It has arrived. I'm glad I'm last on the list though as I haven't read Rabbit Run yet. Will get there soon.
