A book by one of my favorite authors purchased at the Santee Library book sale.

Jeremy Pauling, a 38-year-old bachelor artist who lives with his mother in a rundown boarding house, suffers from extreme anxiety which keeps him housebound with little social interaction. Upon his mother’s death, he rents her room to a young woman and her child, and in a strange way, begins to fall in love.

This is a painful story shaped around the effect that Jeremy and Mary have on each other. As Jeremy will learn in retrospect, Mary has given his life an "eyelike" shape, rather than the never-ending flat line that it would have most surely been, had he not known her. It shows the importance of human relationships and understanding, about adjusting to changes and how sometimes some things just don't change.

Anne Tyler is one of my favorite authors, so I was very excited to start it. Tyler lives up to her reputation for writing about real people in their daily life and making us all care deeply about them. Sometimes I feel like I am sitting inside the kitchen watching these characters go about their life. This is how well Tyler observes and writes about relationships. It truly was a good read and one I do not want to spoil the plot of because (to me) it was a quick read.

I will note that I just finished reading Uncensored: Views and (Re)views by Joyce Carol Oates. It is kind of a book of her notes/reviews on some popular authors to which this book its noted. I found it very interesting especially after just finishing this read. =)

Traveling as a surprise RABCK to dg7500. Hopefully, you will not surprise me by saying you read this already! lol. An earlier novel but a good read.
