The White Tiger: A Novel (Man Booker Prize)

A very fast read, with deceptively simple prose. A slice of the underbelly of India, and the almost impenetrable line between lower and upper class there. The protagonist while not admirable is certainly intelligent despite is limited education. A question of what's inevitable in the situation that exists today. I enjoyed the insights, and the fairly blunt questions one is forced to ponder after reading.
I have received this book from Neuilly, fulfilling a Wish List entry! Hope to read soon!
This was a quick and interesting read. The more I read about India through novels, the more alien it seems to me, a world full of fascination surely, but so ruled by corruption and shackles of the past that just persist in spite of any modernization. I never quite understood why the hero is communicating with a visiting Communist Chinese dignitary? There is so much to admire in Balram Halwai who must above all protect himself and who learns that scruples might just leave you dead. But murder? hmmm...
I just received this book as a RABCK from Neuily. Will share with others as soon as I finish.
