So Long, And Thanks for All the Fish: The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy Part Four Just when Arthur Dent's sense of reality is at its most clouded, he suddenly finds the girl of his dreams. He finds her in the last place in the Universe in which he would expect to find anything at all, but which 3,976,000,000 people will find oddly familiar. They go in search of God's Final Message to His Creation and, in a dramatic break with tradition, actually find it. VOLUME FOUR IN THE TRILOGY OF FIVE.
" There is, for some reason, something especially grim about pubs near stations, very particular kind of grubbiness, a special kind of pallor to the pork pies. Worse than the pork pies, though, are the sandwiches. There is a feeling which persists in England that making a sandwich interesting, attractive, or in any way pleasant to eat is something sinful that only foreigners do.
'Make 'em dry,' is the instruction buried somewhere in the collective national consciousness, 'make 'em rubbery. If you have to keep the buggers fresh, do it by washing 'em once a week.'
It is by eating sandwiches in pubs on Saturday lunchtimes that the British seek to atone for whatever their national sins have been. They're not altogether clear what those sins are, and don't want to know either. Sins are not the sort of things one wants to know about. But whatever sins there are are amply atoned for by the sandwiches they make themselves eat."

hey there,
the book will be on its way to Portugal by tomorrow...
Quite exciting as I´ll be travelling that direction too in about two weeks time, partly hitchhiking, but without the help of a hitchhiker´s guide to the galaxy.. :)
well, the book is some easy reading stuff, but I´ve got to admit that apart from those typical sarcastic/ironic/whatever remarks which made me laugh my head off a few times, there isn´t too much about the story...
I´m a bit disappointed after having read the first books, I can´t explain properly, but somehow there´s neither a plot nor action taking place..I mean, virtually NOTHING happens except the earth existing despite its blow-up and arthur dent falling in love and making love in the sky?!?
well yeah, not to forget about God´s final message to his creation..one of the highlights , definitely..
I can´t even give a proper favourite quote, I guess it would be the bit about the english sandwiches!
Hello to all travellers! =)
anyway,I still adore th first ones!

Thank you, Starla ,I've got it now. And if you'r travelling this way, show up in one of out week meetings, dont be shy. About the book let'e travel with in and see.
This book arrived in my mail box today - from Portugal! The postman gives me bemused looks if I happen to be in our yard and collect the mail from him - I get quite a number of parcels each week and I am sure he is dying to ask me what is in them.
This book has almost mirrored aspects of my life in its travels so far, not quite two years ago my husband was working in Sweden and we travelled on the train over to Copenhagen a couple of times. Then last year he was initially working in Milano for a while, then went to live in Lisbon and work for a while...unfortunately I didn't get to Lisbon or Milan with him. But I feel as though I should send the book to him to read after me, so that it continues to follow his peripatetic pathways with him... he is now living in Vietnam.

Like all Douglas Adams, quirky and enjoyable. I will send this on to amynsperry as soon as I receive the address.
