The Cry of the Dove

From the back of the book: "Salma has committed a crime punishable by death among her Bedouin tribe: she had sex out of wedlock and became pregnant. To save her from the honor killing waiting for her at the hands of her tribe, Salma is rushed into protective custody where her newborn is seized from her arms, and where she stays for years before being ushered to safety in England. Away from the colors and smells of her village, Salma finds herself culturally dispossessed, under pressure to reassess her values and way of life. But just as she begins to form a new identity, the need to return for her lost daughter overwhelms her, and one fateful day, Salma goes back to find her. It is a journey that will change everything."
I liked the way the author portrayed Salma's emotional turmoil and growth in adjusting to her new life. Well done.

This sounds like it will really be good - thank you so much bookpatch! :=D
I liked the first half of this book better than the last half - towards the second half I felt like the distant past, more recent past and current parts of her life (told in alternating pieces throughout the book) started to merge and blend together, which I found a little confusing.
(Perhaps this was done on purpose to reflect her state of mind?) I spent some time wondering (periodically) exactly where Salma was from (as she was often asked) since I never saw an actual country name. I have nothing but admiration however for this author's accomplished writing style, and agree that the depths and ranges of Salma's emotional states was well-described. An interesting book.
