It has arrived! I look forward to perusing its delights.
I have mixed feelings about this book. First, it is really hard to appreciate this art in the format that it's presented. Whoever's idea it was to do this as a standard size paperback should be shot at dawn if not earlier. It is simply too difficult to enjoy the artwork at leisure when one is constantly struggling to keep the page open or see what's in the gutter. Thus my original rating of this book at a 1. It is not designed for the intended purpose, and for a book on design, that is an unforgiveable sin.
On the other hand, I did get a great deal of inspirtation from a number of the things I saw in the book. And that is a good thing, which brought the rating for the book up to a 5.
This goes to mojosmom in tomorrow's mail. Perhaps she'll be less grumpy about the format.

I'll let you know about the format after I sift through it, but I will say right now that whoever bound it should be shot, as the book is close to being in three separate pieces!
A disappointment. 16stepper's right; you can't appreciate this art in the small format. This needed to be both a larger (in height x width) and smaller (in thickness) book. And the colors seem to be poorly reproduced. Which is sad, because it does appear that there are some interesting and creative graphics here, but they are definitely not shown to good advantage.
The book arrived today. It looks very interesting. The spine is cracked and the book seems ready to split in half. I will treat the book very gingerly as I read it. You can track my progress on my profile.
I read the book in two sittings. I wish there were more explanation or background given for the pieces presented. I guess this book is designed for people in the profession so an excess of background information isn't needed.
Having never heard of any of these teams, I wasn't exactly blown away by any of them. The one section that captivated me the most was the flag section. I love the idea of encoding all the possible graphical elements of a world flag and then displaying the output in a long color chart.

I have recieved the book in the mail or more to the point have finally had time to log on and enter an entry. I just finished creating my first annual report mock up for my typography class. Some of the work shown helped to inspire my project, but the poor book was not very well designed.

Received in the mail a couple of days ago. Excited to look this one over, and pass it on to the next player. Thanks for sharing!
I agree with 16stepper's comments on the layout of the book. I enjoyed a great many of the designs, but some were too small to properly see. I loved the counterscript for telemarketing.
This book has just arrived. I'm going to be a maverick and be the first one to say that the non-glossy, mass-market paperback format doesn't bother me. It strikes me as sort of a punk-rock design choice (see the snarky "shocking new bestseller!" notation on the cover) that is very coherent with the style of much of the art inside, which looks mostly conceptual and as such would be nicer with high production values, but doesn't necessarily need them. The cheap printing allows lots and lots of art to be crammed into a small, inexpensive (?) book and I like art, so the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. That said, it could have been bound a lot better. That throw-away quality meshes with some of the other design choices in this format but also, I'm sure, with the printer's cost constraints.
Thanks, bittermint, for passing this book on to me. I have a couple of other rings here, but I will try to get through this one as quickly as possible and pass it on.

Awesome book. I do apologize for keeping it so atrociously long.
I really enjoyed these designs. The format didn't bother me: I thought of each page as a mock-up of the design that gave me a good idea of the concept. Of course they would be gorgeous on huge glossy pages, but minimalist designs like this don't suffer as much from being reduced in size and printed cheaply.
I have booklemur's address and I will be sending this out today.

Received today, Looking forward to reading this!
The book arrived in a somewhat damaged state, with one secrion of the pages detached from the binding. I hope this didn't happen in transit! At any rate, I will treat this with TLC and pass it on well-padded.

Released on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at about 9:00:00 AM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at Postal Release in Royal Mail, England United Kingdom.
RELEASE NOTES:
Off to the next person in the relay - note that the middle section of this book was detached when it arrived here, and I couldn't think of a good way to re-glue it, so it's still not attached to the spine. Won't hurt your enjoyment of this book, though.
A fun and enlightening read overall- thanks, Majosim and other readers for sending this on!

thank you, Booklemur! Holland Design looks interesting!
I think I have the right sort of glue here and I'll try to mend the book.

Shocking new bestseller! is on the cover of this book. I wasn't shocked, but I feel rather at home with designs like these. Are these designs Dutch or international in style, I wonder? Probably the last.
Thanks for ringing, Majosim!
The repairjob seems to hold, for the time being. On to Foliant!

What did I just find on my doorstep?! Exclusive 'Polder-model' images. Thanks Plien for sending. Like the polder-model the book is slowly falling apart.
A nice book to leaf through.
Some designs made me smile:
- DEPT BEZET plastic bag project
- 75B Untitled (the logo's with pictures)
Some things made me curious to see/feel/experience:
- Annelys de Vet, CD ROM How the world is (Hoe ik de wereld om mij heen)
And the color filters used by Thonik for the book The Best of Wim T. Schippers made me go back to secondary school, learning new English words: pages and pages of sentences with particular words in red. Cover the page with a red filter and... I somehow think the red filter has never quite left me :-)
Thanks Majosim for sharing. Off to TheBloody on Monday.

wow .. by now the book is nearly falling apart I guess ... yet still readable and I will look into it soon. My first impression was not that good .. the paper and print quality is not what one should be able to expect when opening a book about graphic design! But I´ll have a look through it before I rate this book ;)
