After hearing the writing duo (Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson) speak at the Boston Public Library, I decided to pick up this book. Rather than being a part of the (very long) Dune series, it stands apart as a testament to the writing process. The two modern authors spend time discussing their writing process and use the book as a whole to show the history of the printed book series.

This book includes original short stories by Frank Herbert as well as letters and correspondence between Frank and his editors and publishers. The short stories are set all over in time throughout the Dune series and both before and after.

Very interesting reading. Any Dune enthusiast will eat it right up. Any fiction writer will appreciate that peek at the writing process both for Frank alone and for his son and his son's cowriter.
