There it is. After I read In cold blood by Truman Capote and watched the movie Capote and read a lot of praise about Harper Lee, I thought I had to complete the cycle and read Harper Lee's book too.
Thank you very much, bjorg for this book, this is a very nice surprise as I wanted this book really bad.

The coincidence is just too big! I actually started this book yesterday, May 11, 2012. Exactly two years after I received the book and I really didn't know!

Did finish it the beginning of this week. I liked it and I can understand the importance of what I was reading about, but can't say that this was The American book you have to read. Did decide to start The help by Kathryn Stockett after that to keep with the theme. I'm glad though to have read it, I can finally say I have read this one, or I should probably call it bragging...;)

I read this book with much pleasure, after it had been on my bookshelf for quite some time. I was afraid it would be a difficult-to-understand-type of 'classic book' (for example I had no clue what 'catcher in the rye' was about at the time and didn't liked it). But this one was humorous, easy to read and fresh to see a part of history from a childs' perspective. Not too difficult to see the different layers that this historic book contains; about childhood dreams and realism, about apartheid and what it was like to be a 'negro' at that time, about growing up, shedding fears and creating new ones...
Thanks for registering this book Bjorg, so I was able to read it. Quite curious that it came all the way from Reykjavík to here (still high on my priority list to visit your country!). That's the nice thing about bookcrossing, you'll never know where it will end up. And thanks Dutch-book fro being the intermediate in this case.
Looking for an other opportunity to pass it on to a new reader. To be continued..
ps. did a little repair as the spine was coming loose a little.

And that finder is me :-)
I have seen it listed on my list for English literature, I've seen it on the 1001-list for a while, but never encountered it before.
And now I finally get the chance to read it :-) Apart from the 'read across my border' theme that this meeting accidentally got with writers from Chili, Peru, Antigua, Kosovo, Croatia, it also brought me quite a few 1001-books that I did not have yet.
Thanks for releasing, paperfish!
