I read this a while ago, and really enjoyed it. It is set in the community of Tiger Bay in Cardiff, a distinctive area around the old docks. It has its own identity, built through years of many different races passing through on ships, some of them falling in love with the locals and staying there. The Maltese community is a particularly strong element in the mix, and this book takes place in 1960s Cardiff, chronicalling a world that no longer exists as the docks were cleared away in the 90's.
