"Second hand books are wild books, homeless books; they have come together in vast flocks of variegated feather, and have a charm which the domesticated volumes of the library lack." --Virginia Woolf

this book is part of the Preface The Cal Poly Shared Reading Program for Fall 2009! I read and enjoyed this book and now am taking it back to Nan's books as I know there is another person who is waiting to read it!
The book selection of PREFACE 2009 is Flight by Sherman Alexie.

Flight is an engaging story of one young man’s modern-day vision quest. The storyrevolves around “Zits,” a Native American teenager who has been juggled from foster home to foster home with little chance to develop a sense of his own identity. Having been in trouble with the law for most of his adolescent life and about to make another irreparable mistake, he is thrown back through time. He lands first in the civil rights era of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s in the body of an FBI agent forced to witness an unimaginable crime. He continues his journey to violent moments throughout American history as the young son of an Indian chief during the battle of Little Bighorn, a Calvary Indian tracker in the late 19th century, and a middle-aged flight instructor flying the skies above present-day Chicago. With each leap through time, Zits becomes more aware of Native American history and his own identity.

This is an interesting read though it was not exactly what I had expected...

"A book is a mysterious object, I said, and once it floats out into the world, anything can happen. All kinds of mischief can be caused, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it. For better or worse, it's completely out of your control."
Paul Auster
