I didn't check out the list what had been released to Omituiset opukset recently, so I took this one... Well, I'll surely check it out before releasing again!

Can't believe how sombre a book can be! Though it goes through the whole range of emotions, you cannot help remembering that the story is being told by an old man reminiscing his glory days. Well, "glory" days... I can understand why this book has been so widely acclaimed, but personally, it didn't leave that unforgettable impression.

Come get your weekend book fix at local BC meetup in Café Sirius!

I must admit I got a bit bored with the book towards the end. I was hoping for it to end already and thought it could have been a bit shorter. It was the same for me as for pippis, OK but not that great that I'd remember it for a long time and think about it afterwards. Following the protagonist's life for decades felt a bit dull.

What I liked most were actually the references to hysteria, anorexia and psycopathy since I'm anyway interested in that stuff. Especially Charcot and his hysterics are something I need to look deeper into. You can find some of the photos Hustvedt tells about in Google image search when you put in "charcot hysteria". Look it up, it's gruesome and fascinating.

Releasing during the weekend somewhere in Jyväskylä. Happy reading!

Edit: I left the book on this round statue thingy on the central shopping street.
