I read this Booker Prize winner for book club. It is a cleverly conceived story written in the first person as a letter from an Indian "entrepreneur" to the Premier of China. The man, using any means necessary, has pulled himself up from the poverty of the Darkness--rural village life--to owning his own company in Bangalore.
The story shines a light on the corruption and sharp divisions between rich and poor in the new India. It's appalling to imagine that such conditions still exist alongside the high tech prosperity that is growing by leaps and bounds.
The writing is five-star. It just wasn't pleasant to read.
