The Red Queen

It wasn't the most boring book I've ever read, but it wasn't the best one, either. A bit strange, but nice insight into eighteenth-century Korea.

Received today, thank you very much!
From the blurb:
"'When I was a little child, I pined for a red silk shirt.'
"So begins The Red Queen - the tale of how a young girl in eighteenth-century Korea is picked from obscurity to be consort to the Crown Prince. Thought inhabiting a jade, silk and jewelled word, the Crown Princess must also contend with the murderous impulses of her husband, Sado, who is touched by madness.
"Two hundred years later, the Crown Princess's story has a deep and far-reaching effect on Dr Babs Haliwell, an academic on her way to a conference in South Korea. Haunted by the Red Queen's ghost, Babs feels that she must do something to keep her story alive...but what is it?"

Not great, but not dreadful. I hated the second section being in the present tense though.
Continuing its journey as a RABCK.

Book has arrived safe and sound, thank you so much for sending it.
10 Sept10 - just finished this book this morning. I think I preferred the first part about the Crown Princess in Korea, although it could have been confusing with all the unusual names it was helped by the author repeating the relationship of the person to the main character. The second half was not as gripping and I felt more could have been made of the Crown Princess looking out for Babs and guiding her. Glad to have read it, thanks for sharing.

Again, thanks for sending to me.
Again, thanks for sending to me.
I Loved this book... Margaret Drabble is one of my favourite writers - I love her style of writing and in this instance, loved the way she worked on ones emotions as she wove together all the pieces of 'the puzzle'. Carefully she kept on picking up small threads of information & connecting them back into the story. For me a very satisfactory read.
On its way to froggie66 ...hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.
Thank you Oppem. I had almost forgotten about this one. :) oops I forgot to thank you for a bookcrossing postcard as well. One I don't already have. Another book for my TBR mountain. I won Canada Smile so it got big suddenly.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
I didn't get a chance to read this and I most likely won't so I am continuing it on its journey by taking it to the meet up for the Cross Canada Book Box.
This went off in the Cross Canada Book Box.
Took this one from the Cross-Canada Book Box. Can't wait to read it, it looks like a good one!
