The Dead Zone

Yard sale purchase intended for release. Old MMPB, somewhat yellowed but still highly readable. Cover synopsis:
[Meet] Johnny, the small boy who skated at breakneck speed into an accident that for one horrifying moment plunged him into The Dead Zone; Johnny Smith, the small-town schoolteacher who spun the wheel of fortune and won a four-and-a-half year trip into The Dead Zone; John Smith, who awakened from an interminable coma with an accursed power -- the power to see the future and the terrible fate awaiting mankind in The Dead Zone.
I first read this book shortly after it was published in 1979, and thought the story was reasonably well done, but not one of King's best works. I did find the political commentary interesting. The 1983 movie starring Christopher Walken as Johnny was pretty good. Martin Sheen played politician Greg Stillson and believe me, you didn't want this guy to wind up in the West Wing. The current TV series with Anthony Michael Hall as Johnny is much better than I expected it to be -- the mid-to-late-70's story translated well when placed in a contemporary setting.
