Saw this in a library sale, so it has already had a life! I read Anne of Green Gables recently and enjoyed it, so thought I might re-read the whole series (I read the series as a child)

I was waiting to read the earlier books before reading this one, however decided not to. It didn't really make much difference as I already knew the main things that had happened. This is a lovely book, very much to it's time, before women had the vote etc and the language in it was sometimes quite amusing ... I never expected to read the line "they gave themselves to shameless orgies of lovemaking" in an Anne of Green Gables book. I don't think it means quite the same thing today!
There was a good plot line and I particularly appreciated the description of how someone cannot really understand people who have had tragedies in their lives when they haven't had them themselves.
A very good book and a series which is well deserving of being called a classic.
