Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

This book is in a Controlled Release!
7 journalers for this copy...
This is the second copy I have registered of this. This copy is a Canongate Pocket Classics and imprint of Canongate Books, Edinburgh.
Born of a nightmare and ‘produced in white-hot haste’, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde has had a cultural impact out of all proportion to its size. A psychological study of endless richness or a pocket-sized shilling shocker for the Christmas market, this is many say, Stevenson’s most famous work.
Edited to add: for some reason, probably haste, I forgot to note on registering that I found this a remarkable read, it was quite fascinating. The subtle decent into self-deception and destruction was spellbinding and the masterly build up of tension quite unnerving.

Rather apt for Edinburgh!
I picked this up at the uncon as I've heard so much about the author and the story.

A fantastic book. The descriptions of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde were very good, as were the entirely believeable periods of transformation.
The story does not seem dated as some of the classics do and as it is only 108 pages long, it is a very quick read.

Landed safely this morning, even through the snow.
I started this a few days ago. Even though it's only a small book, I'm still being quite slow with it, mainly because for some reason I can only read in small 'stints' lately (I was like this with my previous book too..)
I'm afriad I still having my bad habits of
a)Not journalling a book straight away after I've read it and
b)Therefore hanging on to it far too long.
Anyway...
I did enjoy this. I knew it was a "classic" book/story, but I had no idea how short the book actually is. It's only just over 100 pages, and they're small pages at that.
It also got me thinking tht probably what I thought of the story was from films - or bits of films as I don't remember having seen one the whole way through.
I enjoyed it though and eventually got into the characters and story, but then of course as it's a short book... :-s
I can't help coming away from this book wondering if I've missed something, some hidden or unwritten 'meaning' that the story has, or is meant to leave with you. Perhaps, "Be careful what you wish for"?

Just got this from Spike. Not quite enough time to read it before I next see Cass, which should be in an hour or so ...
But did read it fairly quickly, then just took ages to get it into the post, and forgot to do release notes when I did. Ho hum.
This story has become one of those that everyone knows, like an urban myth, so it was interesting to read the original. Hyde is more suave - and shorter! - than he is usually portrayed and, being Victorian, there is plenty of agonised moralising. It is easy to see why the story has stood the test of time, even if familiarity ahs diluted the horror.

Arrived by post this morning. CA forgot it last time we met. Next up on my reading list.
I enjoyed this rather more than any of the movies I've seen. Told as it was at a distance from Jekyll and Hyde seemed to make it all the appalling and sinister.
Just about to PM next in line.
Can't do release notes at the moment, but will once the feature is working again after upgrade to new site.
This is on the way to Kiki19 in Germany on Wednesday 26th May 2010

On the road again
Book has arrived safe and sound in Colorado! I am still reading I Hunger for You but will get to this as soon as I am done :-)
One of the books I wanted to read after seeing "The League of Extroidinary Gentlemen" -- as I hadn't read all the stories the characters came from.
This is a short story/novella that I quite liked. A suggestion about letting your wild side out, that perhaps you need to be careful, lest it take you over. An interesting saga about where evil lies.
I have gingergeoff's addy and will get this book home soon (by tuesday I hope..tis the holidays here in the states, and the post office is closed til then :-)

This has now arrived safely back with me in Swindon - I may hold onto it for a while now!
Many thanks to all who took part in the ring and thank you also for your thoughts on the book.

I am passing this to a work colleague as she is interested in BookCrossing and this has travelled quite a way.
