I got this book from the Citizens for the Charles County Public Library, Inc. (C4CCPL) April Used-Book Bazaar. On the last day of the sale, Saturday 25 April, 2009 they had a sale where you could take home all of the books that you could pack into a paper bag for $1 per bag.

I managed to bring home 11 bags and one of those bags included this book. This book may be added to my already out of control pile of books that I want to read one day or I might just release it.

From the back cover:

Budapest, Hungary:
World War II

Christine is only fifteen, and she’s caught in the middle of a war-torn city. Huddled in the cold, dark cellar of their bombed-out apartment building, Christine and her family listen in fear as the battle rages over their heads. They must get out of the city – but where will they go and how will they escape? Christine is learning some hard lessons about life – and death – as she struggles to stay alive amidst the horrors of war.

This book is hard to read because of the subject matter. I would have thought it to be like The Diary of Anne Frank but it was not at all. It was poorly written and hard to understand without background knowledge of that part of the world and WWII. The book seemed gory and although I understand telling about the horrors of war it was a little too much for me.

I cannot recommend this book and I would not have even finished it if it had not been so short. I can only hope that it will find the right person and that someone will come here and journal it with comments good or bad.
