Not sure whether to give this a 6 or 7 as the first part was a real page turner, then the AA secion was a bit tedious mainly because it was repetative. The chapters on Clarissa's tv work and countryside campaigning were quite interesting. Jennifer sounded like a right old character!
Three of us here have now read this copy and all agreed that the first half was better and fascinating reading.

I didn't realise that the Two Fat Ladies was shown around the world. On the back of this I'm going to offer the book as a ring or ray. I reckon others will want to read about her life, so far.

UPDATE: June, well it seems no one really did fancy this as a bookring so will save for someone else. :-)

Picked up from the book table at Uncon (one of only two books I took!) I'm interested in this one as it apparently mentions friend of BookCrossing and author of The Dangerous Sports Euthanasia Society Christine Coleman! Will get round to reading it in a few months probably...

Autobiography of the woman best known for the Two Fat Ladies TV series. A larger than life character, she seems to be very honest and unsparing with herself, particularly with regard to her dysfunctional family and struggles with alcoholism. This made for an interesting but uncomfortable read. Of particular interest to me was her friendship with friend of BookCrossing (and me!) Christine Coleman. Christine and her family are mentioned throughout the book, and Christine has been a very good friend to Clarissa over the years. It's good to have friendship acknowledged as so important and, indeed, life-saving.

This really is a fascinating and uncompromising autobiography. Clarissa is very honest about her difficult and often violent family life growing up, and later her own alcoholism. Her life during the 1970's and 80's seemed a constant round of parties, pubs and drinking buddies and at one point Clarissa admits that the Falklands war had passed her by - she'd had no idea it had happened. Although this does make for difficult reading on one level - it was strangely fascinating on another and it is part of what makes this a real page turner. I'm afraid I left very cold by Clarrissa's rabid support of hare coursing, and fox hunting, granted it is a way of life for many people and it does get people's passions up, but it is not for me - and never will be - and so reading about it spoilt the later stages of the book for me a bit. Over all though I enjoyed this book very much, Clarissa Dickson Wright, writes well and honestly, and she has certainly packed her life full of incident - all of which makes for very entertaining reading. I also really enjoyed reading about Christine Coleman, Clarissa's good friend for many years (someone I have come to know through bookcrossing of which she is a great supporter) - how funny to meet someone you know in the pages of a book.

This book was retrieved for me from the UnConvention Book Table by my mother, Jalna, who knew that it was right up my street. I have met Clarissa several times (I even named a rabbit after her and introduced them to each other!) and like her very much. Looking forward to reading this as soon as I can find the time.
