Bought as part of the Big Read top 100. Will review once read.
Although the story is wonderful I struggled with this particular translation and switched after a week to a translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. I was amazed at how much difference a good translation can make. If anyone wants to attempt this version it is available.

I tried to get into this book but i don't think i'm at the right place in my life to be reading it right now. I've got too much going on to get into something so deep. I'll look forward to reading it someday but for now will pass it on so it fulfills its dreams of being read!
Enjoy it, Katweeble!

One of the BBC big read books. I expected to find it a really difficult read, especially as the previous posts by book crossers said they could not read this version. I found it quite easy to read, and gripping in part. I found the hero irritating sometimes, but thought it an interesting commentary on the effects of poverty. Am keeping for my daughter sandy undead as she is also going through the BBC big read books
I caught this from katweeble when I got back from uni. It may take a while, but I will read it eventually!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book as i expectred it to be really complicated and very russian. in fact it is an interesting psychological thriller - not what i expected from a classic. i will be leaving it at the campsite i am on in the hope that someone will send it on its journey from april next year :s
