'He could charm your pants off.
That was precisely the problem.
Police Constable Hamish Macbeth hears that a posh English chap has moved into an unlikely place - the backwater village of Drim. Indeed, Peter Hynd has the town's matrons giggling like teens as they ogle him working shirtless in his garden, bringing him goodies, and even hop into his bed. But the dour men of Drim - Highlanders whose feelings run deep - are doing a slow burn. Hamish knows there's bound to be trouble.
At home in Lochdubh, Hamish's own romantic ties to his high-born fiance begin to chafe and the constable escapes his banns and bonds with a wee journey to Drim himself. He isn't surprised that Peter is missing and a body has been found... until he discovers that the corpse is not the charming man he expects...'

I think this is the 11th Hamish Macbeth mystery novel in the series. Completely different to the 1990's BBC adaptions that bought many a smile to a Sunday evening, but none the less very enjoyable reading.
Found in the Huntingdon Branch of the British Heart Foundation for £2.00. Slightly battered - spine bent and knocked corners - but still in perfectly readable condition.

A lovely easy read with a lot of Highlander feelings running high and low all over the place :) I much prefer M.C. Beaton's Hamish MacBeth novels to her more recent Agatha Raisin stories, even if Hamish is nothing much like the character as portrayed by Robert Carlyle.
Read in one sitting last night, and now ready to pass on, so making this AVL for another reader to enjoy.

Been floating about at my parent's house for a while but am trading with Reetpetite in Nottingham for 'Silent in the Grave' - thanks for thinking of me Rita :)
Hope you enjoy this one, the 10th novel, as I now know as I had the first 10 given to me as a birthday present last year by a friend who knows a) I love to read and b) love this series of books and tv series.
Hopefully will get posted off today from Brampton post office to catch the 5pm post.

This is the first Hamish Macbeth book I've read (although I've watched the TV series) & the first one by M C Beaton. Really enjoyed it, the mystery was very good. Hamish goes does his job how he thinks fit & seems to get into trouble with his boss. The capture of the burglar was very funny.
Thanks AgnesXNitt
