Imogene is young and beautiful. She kisses like a movie star and knows everything about every film ever made. She's also dead and waiting in the Rosebud Theater for Alec Sheldon one afternoon in 1945. . . .
Arthur Roth is a lonely kid with big ideas and a gift for attracting abuse. It isn't easy to make friends when you're the only inflatable boy in town. . . .
Francis is unhappy. Francis was human once, but that was then. Now he's an eight-foot-tall locust and everyone in Calliphora will tremble when they hear him sing. . . .
John Finney is locked in a basement that's stained with the blood of half a dozen other murdered children. In the cellar with him is an antique telephone, long since disconnected, but which rings at night with calls from the dead. . . .

Received today. Thanks Kathy.
Thanks, terra57! Joe Hill has become a resident of my favorite authors' list, and I look forward to listening to these stories.
I loved this collection! I'm a big fan of short stories, and I'm happy to find that Hill has the chops for that format. Faves? Abraham's Boys and The Black Phone (this one had me on the edge of my driver's seat, forcing myself to continue driving so I could finish it). 20th Century Ghost is also pretty darn good. I actually didn't find one story that I didn't like, but my least favorite is probably You Will Hear the Locust Sing.
Ledoux is excellent in his interpretation of these stories. Bravo!
Anyway, I'm sending this on to msjoanna. Hope you like it!
Unabridged, 11 CDs, approximately 12.5 hours, read by David Ledoux

Update: Mailed today to msjoanna
Hooray! I like listening to short stories and I've read Horns and Heart-Shaped Box by Hill. Reading those, I actually felt like he might be a better short story author than novelist, so I have high hopes for this collection.
The reader did a superb job. He didn't try to over-dramatize, but did speed up his reading at appropriate moments when the suspense was building. In particular, I thought "Pop Art" and "My Father's Mask" were standout stories. I liked these substantially more than I've liked Joe Hill's novels.
The book is on its way to rannie, who selected it from the CD VBB at Book Obsessed.
I forgot this was coming - what a pleasant surprise. Thanks MsJo!
