This is a great book!!!! I really enjoyed reading it and can't wait to get my hands on the next book. It kind of reminds me of Harry Potter, which is awesome.

Not a bad book. A fun romp through Greek myth, but it's no Harry Potter. Still, I'd be willing to check out the rest of the books in the series.

Just finished reading it, it was really, really good! A slow start as you have to get your head around the whole mystery but then you are blasted into an AMAZING storyline that will stay for you forever, I sure hope the film is the same as the book!

To me, this book was a nice, easy read but not much more. I liked how it twisted the Greek mythology into a more modern version (especially Aunty Em was brilliant). But, I'm sorry to say that the story was a little too simplistic for me. Maybe it's just that the book aims a somewhat younger readers (like the early Harry Potter ones), but it still felt a little light.
I'm still glad I read it; thanks very much for giving me this opportunity, Crossing-Guard! But I won't be looking out for the later books in the series.

This book arrived last week and because I decided to read it right away I was hoping I'd be able to get away with only one journal entry, but I'm still waiting on an address from the next in line. I know it's the holidays so I should be patient. If I don't hear back from her within 2 weeks of when I sent my PM, I'll move on to the next person.

He's not a bad kid, though, and doesn't intentionally cause problems. He's just always getting blamed for all the inexplicable things that happen around him.
When Percy discovers that he's a half god and half human and joins Camp Half-Blood, things start beginning to make sense. Now his biggest problem should be figuring out who his father is--Hermes? Zeus? Poseidon? Hades?--except that Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen and he's the prime suspect. There's only way to prove his innocence, and advert war between the gods: Percy is sent on a quest (with only a satyr and a twelve-year-old daughter of Athena as help-meets) to find the lightning bolt.
The Lightning Thief is the first book in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
I liked how Riordan used switched things up by making things that are usually considered negative (dyslexia and ADHD) into indicators of inhuman gifts (I expect that if kids who suffer for one or both of these issues come across this series, it might help them feel a little bit better about themselves). I also appreciated how fully Greek mythology was incorporated into the story. The novel isn't perfect and there are a few aspects of the plot that don't quite add up, but overall I think The Lightning Thief is a very promising beginning to a new series.

I loved this story! I'm enjoying Percy Jackson more than I did Harry Potter!!I'm really enjoying all the Greek mythology that I'm consuming while reading. Can't wait the new adventures that await me in the next book. Sorry for holding so long,life's been hectic. Sending on to next reader.

I love this series and was feeling like I wanted something familiar so started rereading these during the COVID pandemic.
Adding this one into the Calgary BookCrossing Book Box. It will hopefully find a new reader.
OK I will pick this out of the COVID Meeting box to read and enjoy.
Fun read. All sorts of interesting characters. Not sure if I like the Gods - they can be real jerks. But like the main characters.
