The Heart of the Matter
3 journalers for this copy...
From the back cover: Scobie, a police officer in a fly-blown West African colony during the war, is above suspicion. Then, passed over for promotion, he is forced to borrow money from a Syrian trader to send his faded wife Louise on holiday. In her absence, he falls in love with a pathetic child widow... and, inexorably, his conscience and his love of God lead him to disaster.
This is a fabulous book - I've given it a fuller review here: http://www.niltiac.net/2006/04/the-heart-of-the-matter-by-graham-greene/

Picked this up from Fire-dragon who is moving countries yet again. I'll add this to my enormous TBR pile.
Journal Entry 4 by Alectoness at Wimbledon, Greater London United Kingdom on Saturday, June 27, 2015
This is one that was on my to-be-read pile in my last house, and then got put away when we moved - I've recently found it again, but have now run out of time to read before we leave the country. Fire-Dragon's journal entry did make me smile though, knowing that she wrote it before we arrived in the UK, before we first met... I'll wild release this book over the next couple of weeks, and hope it finds its way to another reader.
