This is one of my all time favorite books.

My mother once gave me a copy of The Hobbit, but it has since been released. My brother also had a copy that I registered for him last summer. I released a third copy earlier this month.
I have a graphic novel of The Hobbit in my permanent collection. I gave away another copy of it.

The Hobbit seems destined to be a book that dominates my bookshelves, yet I've never actually read the novel. I saw the animated movie when I was a kid, and I've read the beautiful graphic novel linked above, but when it comes to the actual text I've never sat down and had a nice read. Weird huh?

I don't think I'll be holding on to this book, since I can always borrow my brother's copy when I decide to read it.

How funny!
This book was last journaled by me nearly a year ago, but it hasn't been with me all this time. I mailed it out last May in the 1001 Bookbox and visited at least five other people in the interval, including these BookCrossers:
- Oldbroad
- gomboggit
- angieaustin
- waterfalling
- jsmeltser

How funny! I hope the book has better luck finding a master this round!

This book enjoyed a brief visit in San Jose, CA before continuing its journey with jsmeltser's 1001 Books Bookbox!

Selected from the 1001 book box. Thank you! I was undecided on this one, because The Fellowship of the Ring has been sitting unread on my shelf for years, but then just today there was a thread about why it's a good idea to read The Hobbit first. Was it fate.....?

To be honest... I think I may have missed the window on this one! Perhaps if I had read it as a child or teen, it would have had an impact on me, but as it was, I found it slow going. At first I enjoyed the quaint writing style, but once they set out on the road, I quickly became bored. I set it aside with forty pages to go..... um, probably a year ago, and finally just today picked it up and slogged to the end.

I'm glad to have finally read it though, even if it wasn't my cup of tea, and it's always fun to tick another one off the 1001 list! Thanks so much to BecksterCa for sharing and better luck to the next reader!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

This book traveled with me all the way from St. Petersburg, Florida, to my new home in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I brought it to today's meetup but there were no takers. Guess I was the last person to have finally read it! It can now be found on the shelves at the Gingko's OBCZ in St. Paul.

Grabbed this off the shelves at Ginkos as the Banned Books Week display in St Paul has now consumed 81 books. I will release this tomorrow at University of St Thomas.

Reread it for Banned Books Week! Banned early (for anti-religious sentiment) and challenged late, it has also been burned in Alamagordo New Mexico for being Anti-Christian.

This is my least favorite in the Middle Earth series. The tale of Bilbo Baggins and his finding of the Ring of Power while treasure hunting is sweet, but a little simple. But most Tolkien fans either Love the Hobbit, and tolerate the Lord of the Ring, or vice-versa. So i tolerate the Hobbit, while rereading the Lord of the Rings every few years.
For more information about banned books go to the American Library Association page.
