The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Bruno's friendship with Shmuel will take him from innocence to revelation. And in exploring what he is unwittingly a part of, he will inevitably become subsumed by the terrible process.
I really liked the style of writing and Bruno's innocence / naivety. A book that will certainly stay in my thoughts for a very long time.

I couldn't put it down till I finished reading it within only a few hours. A moving and gripping story. Well written. Highly recommended!
Off to jurmai now!
Sorry!

Very gripping, fascinating and shocking! I read it in just a few hours, but it touched me deeply! Sometimes I wanted to shout at Bruno for his naivety and to force him to see, but this naivity was the fact, that made the story so gripping.
Afterwards I read the questions and comments for discussion, which were interesting, too, and even showed some new point of views.
Thanks for the ring!

On the way to the next reader!
Going to read it after I've finished my current book!
I have several points of criticism.
First, again a little boys perspective... I have recently read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and probably more before, and this wondering but at the same time presumptuous look at the world around you, it's getting on my nerves... Und überhaupt, where are the little girls?!
Second, it is totally unrealistic that Bruno is so ignorant. It is after 1942, so well into the war. Every child knows Germany is at war. And every child knows who the 'Fury' is! and every child living in Berlin, even one growing up quite protected, knows that there are poor people, and that the poor people's children sell the newspaper or shine your shoes or ring the door bell and ask for rags. Well, ok, I must admit, I do not know how these issues were dealt with during the Nazi time, maybe child work w a s permitted but then, he, as the son of a high-ranking party member, for sure was in a youth organisation, where he learnt not only the HH-Gruß...
Third, even assuming Bruno is so naive... then the author doesn't keep up this perspective in his writing. There are many passages, which hint at a more knowing (our/hindsight) perspective, and this annoys me.
So, well, right now, I'm quite annoyed with this book. But it is a fast read, and I will finish it, so that I can say I've read it.
In fact, said that (fast read), I come to believe that it is a children's book? I mean, that would explain or even excuse point 1 and 2 (but makes point 3 even more annoying).
Next day: Ok, I have decided that I am so annoyed because of the big gap between the book I've read previously and this one, and I'll leave it there...

Qantaqa announced it once more in the Forum,
and the book travels to karneol now.

Der Ring reist weiter...
It is very emotionally and even the reader who has no idea of that time can understand the feelings and thought in the book. I think that this is one of the best books I ever read.
The book moves back to Qantaga as soon as I have an adress.
Mimi4711 wants to read the book as well; so it will continue travelling tomorrow.
