Amazon Editorial Review:
It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .
Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.
This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

Markus Zusak writes about the Holocaust using a different point of view. Death dictates The Book Thief, telling the story of Liesel, a foster child living with a compassionate couple in a town outside of Munich. Death keeps a distant eye over Liesel and watches her change from an insecure, shy young girl to a thoughtful young woman. As Liesel grows and becomes more aware of the world around her, she also develops a love for (stealing) books and the power of words.
Don't let the "young adult" classification keep you from reading this book - The Book Thief is a great read for any age.

Received in the mail yesterday. Thanks, Aberpeter!
What a different way to tell a story about the Holocaust. This story is narrated by "Death" and centers around a young girl, Liesel. It was thought provoking to read "Death's" point of view on the atrocities of Nazi Germany.

Book received. Thanks again for the swap. Strange coincidence, my daughter thought I bought this book for her because she said she needs to read it for school. Told her that I just picked it at random through bookcrossing. Thanks again. two readers for the price of one. Will pass on when finished.
