This is a fantastic story about Amir who is 12 yrs old and trying to develop a relationship with his father....winning the kite-fighting tournament should make him proud but it doesn't exactly go to plan...

I couldn't put this one down when I read it and I highly recommend it to anyone that's not got round to it yet!

My winnings from the bookswap game at todays meet-up and I'm very pleased with my win as I'm one of those people who hasn't got round to reading this yet.

This book follows the progress of Amir, a young Afghani boy - from the Russian invasion of Afghanistan to the present day.
His search for redemption for his abandonment of his best friend forms the core of the book.
Tragic but ultimately uplifting and although I preferred 'A thousand splendid suns' this is still a really good read.

I thought this was an enthralling story and filled me in on some Afghan history. I thought there were good characters and it was very well written. To be recommended.

I wasn't quite as enamoured of this as I'd hoped, having enjoyed 'A thousand splendid suns' more a few years ago. Maybe because our main protagonist was a self confessed selfish character, driven by needing his Baba to show him more love than he ever would or could, so I was never fully engaged by him. Also, it was a pretty dour read with more deaths and hideous occurrences than redemptive ones.
However, I think I'd still recommend it especially as the sense of place and time was very good.
