Cover-blurb:
"The Royal Family of Cardia has been viciously murdered and the country's borders are being attacked. Adam Pell is a ranger, defending the realm as he mourns the death of his cousin, the king.
"Then he meets Morgan, on his way to enlist, and the attraction is instant and mutual. But Morgan is not what he seems. Dangerous, complex, haunted by his past and compelled by his masters to carry death with him wherever he goes, he brings a dreadful threat to Cardia – and to Adam Pell himself."
Another offering from the little publisher Wayward Books, this is a dark, fantasy-realm romance with some S/M elements - lots of steamy sex and a generous helping of angst. Recommended. [I've had this book for some years now, and am not sure I'm ready to part with it, but as it's not very well known I thought I'd register it to help spread the word.]
Turns out the Wayward Books publications are effectively fanfic based on the characters Bodie and Doyle from The Professionals, a British crime series from the late '70s/early '80s. I never saw the show, but having learned about the fanfic, I can see how each book takes the same characters and casts them into different settings. No idea how fans of the original show would react to the liberties taken in this book {wry grin}.
Other Wayward titles that I've read include Perfect Trust, Paper Flowers, and The Larton Chronicles.
