Oh good, it's here! I just got this book out of my mailbox, and I will start reading it as soon as I get off the internet :-)
Thanks for starting the bookray, kayters.
Thanks for starting the bookray, kayters.
I really enjoyed this book, too. I totally agree with everything kayters said about it. I am now on my way to the post office to mail it to mady.
I've received this book yesterday from Keeprdg. Thank you so much for it, both to Keeprdg (for sending me the book) and kayters (for organising this bookray).
Ahead of me there's a 4 days weekend, so I will for sure be reading this book then, so that I can make it travel further pretty soon. Will journal again when I finish the book :)

Finished this one yesterday. Even though the book is not so short, it was a fast and quite enjoyable read. Unfortunately, it's not hard for me to believe that the Xes were based on a real family...
It'll go today to meet Fflloorr :)

I was not supposed to be here but thanks to Kayters and Mady I'm reading one more bookring book :-)
I already started reading it and I'll finish it tomorrow and pass it on to Xana.

I thought it would be funnier than it actually is :-( I got tired of Nanny's role. Always the poor one being "abused" by her employers. If she was such an intelligent woman she could have done something about it. I don't know, maybe it's just my poor understanding of the book. :-(
But there were some funny parts!
Thanks kayters for leting me participate in this ray!

It's mine for the moment. I'm already on page 90 and so far, so good.
I understand what Fflloorr means when she says that one gets tired of the Nanny role, but my attencion was always centered on Grayer. And on that perspective the book is very interesting, specially if one believes that such situations do really happen (which I do).
I called the parents all the names I could remember and like Nan, I found myself hoping the child makes it into a balanced adult and that the cicle is broken.

I've received the book and will start reading soon.
I enjoyed the book. Although I wonder if there are really people like the X-family. I just can't imagine that parents never give attention to their kid. Anyway it was a great read. As soon as I received Nikel27's address I'll pass it on.

Journal Entry 17 by bookmaniac70 from София / Sofia, Sofiya Bulgaria on Wednesday, September 10, 2003
Book arrived here in Sofia. I have a day or two to finish with "Surfacing" by Atwood (bookray of Chrisp93) and shall start reading this one.
Journal Entry 18 by bookmaniac70 from София / Sofia, Sofiya Bulgaria on Thursday, September 11, 2003
Started reading today. Quite different reading from my previous one, so it is refreshing. So far I like it very much. I have no patience to move on and get to know more about Nanny`s adventures. Well, for me Xes sound like completely possible kind of persons...and I admire Nanny`s patience and sense of humour.I shall post again in the next days.
Journal Entry 19 by bookmaniac70 from София / Sofia, Sofiya Bulgaria on Saturday, September 13, 2003
Well, I finished it. For me the book is even more a true account than a fiction. I think this because Nanny herself is perhaps the least developed character in the novel...which for me sounds like she was writing from her own experience and was looking at everything through her own eyes. Though Mrs.X is no doubt a fictional character, still I believe there exist families like hers and women like her....drowned in their vanity, their money and the lack of sense and purpose in life. I also believe there are people who treat their children`s nannies like slaves. I was furious all the time at Nan for not doing anything..not standing for herself but remembered all the time that in fact she needed that job badly and couldn`t open her mouth. Also, she loved Grayer, and this is one of the nicest things in the book. I was feeling sad at the end. I wanted to hope that Nanny would meet a better life....obviously she did, after writing this bestseller, LOL!
I like to thank *kayters* for sharing the book with us. I hope the next readers will have two or three pleasant evenings with it , like me.

Glad to see you enjoyed the book, Bookmaniac70! Sounds like you got out of it what I got out of it - I'm glad someone else felt the same way about the book that I did. :)
Postal release to the next in the list planned for tommorow, or latest- on Tuesday.

Journal Entry 23 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Wednesday, September 24, 2003
Received this morning, thanks bookmaniac70 - and for the postcard. I had to smile when I took the book out of its envelope this morning, either it fell in a puddle on its way over here or someone has dropped it in the bath ;-) Either way it's now a much loved book! I am just reading another bookray at the moment but will start this one when I've finished - shouldn't take too long.
Journal Entry 24 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Sunday, September 28, 2003
I started this book this morning and have just finished reading it. It's a quick read and one that made me want to continue reading to the end. I can well believe that there are people like the Xes in this world. You here stories in the press about nannycams and abusive nannies but never anything about the families that these nannies live with.
Nan did annoy me on times because she could have approached her employer and laid down ground rules about what she would and wouldn't do. Her mother was right she could have said No. Then I remembered that she was only 21 and still in college and her employers took advantage of her youth, relative inexperience and her conscientiousness. Despite her protestations, Nan forgot that she was doing a job, became too attached to Grayer and and let herself be bullied because of it. Thank goodness she had a strong support network of friends and family that could help her, even if she didn't listen to them.
As you can probably tell from my comments I became deeply involved in this story to the point where I'm shouting at Nan "What are you doing, you stupid girl" :) and it felt very true to life. The authors must have drawn heavily on their experiences to write this story. Sad because its true.
Thanks for giving me that chance to read it Kayters. I'll send it onto Talkland early next week.

Hear good things about this novel hope that it won't disappoint. Journal again when I have read it, but I am not sure when that will be as my TBR pile of bookrays is a little bigger than I would wish at the moment.
Journal Entry 26 by talkland from Eastbourne, East Sussex United Kingdom on Thursday, October 16, 2003
I didn't really enjoy this that much. I think it was too predictable and found it fairly dull. I did feel for the little boy Grayer though who had the person closes to him [his Nanny] changed on whim due to his parents selfishness. Having worked as an au pair in France I can tell you that unfortunately there are parents out there like the X's. Poor kids!

Oops sorry! I forgot release notes again. I only seem to do this on Kayters' bookrings/rays for some strange reason. I had to jump Paixful as they didn't reply and Summerbreeze has already got a copy, so it was on to the next person...

Got this yesterday - can't wait to get started! I should note that the book was a bit wet when it arrived...I think the bubble pack leaked. Mostly it's the cover that is damaged; the pages look okay.
A very readable look at the world of Upper-East Side wealth. The "so awful it's funny" moments were balanced with just as many "so awful I want to cry" ones. Unfit parents come in all shapes and sizes, unfortunately; while this is a work of fiction the authors obviously know what they are talking about - a preface notes that they have worked as nannies for over 30 NYC families between them. Sadly, I have no doubt that the horrible X's are not too far off the mark.
Thanks, kayters, for sharing this! I am so happy to have finally read it, and the timing was brilliant - I received this the day after returning from my first trip to NYC. :)

I had forgotten I signed up for this. I love suprises : ) Can't wait to read as soon as I finish the one I'm reading now Thanks
I had mixed feelings on this book. I kept waiting for Nanny to set someground rules and quit getting walked all over yet I had to finish the book to find out what happened. Being a Nanny is a job I could never do raising a kid by rules i didnt agree on especially if the people setting the rules never really knew the kid. I did enjoy the book as a whole but it's not a favorite sorry. Thank you Kayters for starting the bookring
Writing's not top notch and the plot wanders a bit, but I still found it thoroughly enjoyable. I couldn't put it down! Am sending it on in the Ray.
Sorry, I think this is the third time I've tried this. I did recieve the book from Kat123 some time ago and am now sending it on, hopefully to Satan666 if I hear from her after contacting her again. Otherwise, it's on to the next person. About the book itself, I was disappointed with the writing but the fun and funny plot kept me entertained well enough, I swallowed it up in only two nights. Thanks!

While I wait for the next BXer's address, I'll do my little review of this book.
I really enjoyed the book and I agree with the previous BXers who described it as very readable, with "so sad it is funny moments". I can absolutely picture a family like the Xes living and breathing vanity, shallowness and junk child-rearing methods. In my days as a babysitter, I met some very very rich families, but I was lucky enough to only know the well-adjusted ones! :o)
This book was funny most of the time, but it left a bitter taste in my mouth at the end. I agree with those who got irritated with Nanny's lack of a backbone, but at the same time I think I could understand her position: she knew that Grayer would be yanked of another positive relationship without warning and made to adapt to a new nanny if she became too assertive with Mrs. X. After reading this book, I am even more convinced of my theory that you should get a license before reproducing! :o)

The book is here. It's next on my TBR list.
Finished the book yesterday- it was a very quick read for being so long.
I really enjoyed the story. The one character I couldn't get into was Mr. X. Who the heck does he think he is? Why would Mrs. X want him around anyway? Don't get me wrong, Mrs. X is terrible, but if I were her I would kick that cheating rat out. She & Grayer could live easily on the amount of child support and alimony she'd get from him.
Mngirl has asked to be skipped and Arugh48187 has already read the book.
Next on the list is Kbgoffe.

It's been a week and Kbgoffe hasn't responded. Next up is morpha.
