Drinking Sapphire Wine
4 journalers for this copy...
It's a while since I read this and the only character I can really remember is The Pet, a nameless animal acquired on a whim. The Pet is ignored by the heroine and bites everyone it meets.Mostly they deserve it.

Received from rmg - I've been after this book for ages so many many thanks. More when I've read it...
I loved this book - it was the kind of book that, reading it on the tube to work, I'd get so sucked in I'd forget I was supposed to get off and have to rush. I find that I absolutely love Tanith Lee's work, or find it rather indifferent, but this was definitely in the former category. I think I liked the second section better, as the first seemed to go in circles rather. It's the story of a very shallow society, which makes the 'heroine's' search for something more all the more poignant.
PS And I'm sorry it took me so long to read it!

Thank you so much, Hexa! I love Tanith Lee's works and I can't wait to dig into this! :D
I've gotten another copy of this book by accident, which was entitled Don't Bite The Sun. I had no idea that it was two books in one, as was this book, because they both had different titles. I loved this book though, and it's become one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy books. I'm releasing this book to a friend and a fellow BCer. =) He might read it, if he wants, or he can just wild release it.

I received this while in Malaysia - terima kasih, starbytes! She told me that it's one of her favorites, so how could I not want to read it? Since I had no books for the return home to Coquitlam, I told her I'd probably start it on one of the two planes. I lied, sort of; I started it at the Hong Kong airport during our lay over between the two planes. Didn't finish as much as I would've liked, and for that I blame my habit of turning to the "Glossary of Jang Slang" far too often. I eventually just let the context fill me in. What I have read so far I've liked.

Aaaaaand, I'm done. Finished it today in full flourish. Since my last entry I'd been making slow progress; I was enjoying the story but it wasn't captivating me. Things changed right around halfway, with the trial. From then on my reading picked up and I was fully onboard. This morning I was going to have something to eat, read a couple of pages, then go for a run, but a couple of pages turned into several pages turned into a lot of pages turned into I'm done! So I'm now finally back from my run and finished my post-run stretching and exercises (it's okay, I've also showered so I don't stink) and am here to say that I love this book. I would never have read it if not for starbytes, so thanks for this.
Ha! After writing the above I scrolled and saw that Hexa had written this: "I think I liked the second section better, as the first seemed to go in circles rather." I agree completely.
I will likely be control releasing this rather than wild releasing. More Drinking Sapphire Wine on my book blog.
