I was vaguely aware of the movie made from this book and was jogged into re-remembering the book because a knitting book group are discussing this book in March. It was the exact excuse I needed to buy and read the book.

This was my first venture into the world of graphic novels and I really enjoyed it. I thought this was a beautifully simple way to tell the complex history of Iran alongside the layered complexity of the author's life. The drawings were great and eased the difficult themes into digestible bite sized chunks. I'd be interested to read more from this author and possibly branch out into other graphic novels.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I left this book on the second level of the Southbank Centre having come out of an amazing performance by The Roots. I wanted to check my email and Twitter my enthusiasm right away (I live on a boat and don't have internet access very often so still get ludicrously excited by free wifi). Anyway, I thought this fabulous book was a great marriage to the diverse and intelligent fans of The Roots and I hope my guess proved right and this book found its way to a curious and appreciate new reader.
