Carter relates traditional fairy tales through her own unique perspective. The mind of the modern feminist unravels the mysteries of the subconscious and its related symbolism. This is a book of stories that is at turns both beautiful and distrubing.

"Second hand books are wild books, homeless books; they have come together in vast flocks of variegated feather, and have a charm which the domesticated volumes of the library lack." --Virginia Woolf

"A book is a mysterious object, I said, and once it floats out into the world, anything can happen. All kinds of mischief can be caused, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it. For better or worse, it's completely out of your control."

Part of a lovely RABCK bookbox sent to me by princess-peapod while I am visiting family here in the Boston area.

Looks interesting...looking forward to this.

I've been sorting my shelf and realize that this is listed as with me, while it is in fact with my sister in Boston. I'll set it to travelling (but not make release notes) to signify that, but it was one I was interested in reading, so I'll have to get it back when next i visit her. I hope she's enjoyed reading it, even though she doesn't generally journal.
