Have read this entire series several times. It is refreshing, entertaining, humorous, and at times, tear-jerking. You don't have to be an animal lover to get lost in these books. James Herriot is an astute of human nature, as well as a devoted animal lover. His quick wit never ceases to astound me and his warm affection for his fellow workers and neighbors is heart-warming. You will want a copy "for keeps" as well as one to "release".
