This book was chosen because it is on the 2009 Reading Olympics list for Bucks County, and Morrisville's Gifted 6-12 students are required to read one Reading Olympics book per month this school year. Our goal is to get the books on the list, journal about them as we read them, have a release party at the end of the school year, and track the journey of our books next school year. We're excited to see where this book goes!

Hi, my name is Nathan. I did not like this book at all. It was slow, boring, and annoying. Let me tell you abit about this book. Kino is a poor man trying to raise a family. One day his son is stung by a scorpion. The family tries to get a doctor but they are to poor and can not afford it. Afar days later, while Kino was searching for pearls, he found a huge one. That day he took the pearl to the city but no one would by it for a good price. Many people were trying to take the pearl. Kino decided to take the pearl to the capitol. Read this book to find out what they do with it. I would not recommend this book. It is a short read but it drags out every little detail.

Hello, my name is Joe from MHS Gifted. The Pearl by John Steinbeck was one of the worst books I have ever read. It is very slow and boring and the story isn't that interesting to me. The book is about a poor pearl fisherman who gets lucky and finds the greatest pearl in the world. Kino, his wife Juana, and his son Coyotito are the members of the family. I would not recommend this book because I think it is absolutely terrible.
