Another absolutely absorbing and very rewarding tale starring the master of melancholy, Erlandur and his team of detectives. I think this is in my top 5 reads so far for 2009.

From my Wish List too! From Canada to England and then Wales, delighted to receive this one. I am fascinated by Erlendur, Sigurdur Oli and Elinborg, in fact I'm reading the previous one at the moment, great timing.
Great read, I hope there are more translations on the way. I like to think of Erlendur driving around in his Ford Falcon, maybe his gloom will start to lighten up from here on.
This will now go out on a short bookring.

Very good indeed; I shall take Cassie's advice and search for more by this author. There was a calm in the presentation of this mystery which I enjoyed greatly.
We have a busy weekend so I shall get this into the post on Monday.
Update 27 June. After a slight delay this book is going in the post on Monday 29th.

Book safely here and thank you for the lovely label!
A thoroughly enjoyable read! I liked the different layers of this story, particularly the Leipzig one. Indridason constructs his stories very well. What next for Erlandur -perhaps he'll smile?!

The Draining Lake - Arnaldur Indridason :: this arrived a couple of hours ago, and I am heading off to Orkney right about... help... now!!! So will read this on my return in August.
Returned from the family wedding in Orkney, picked this up and whizzed through it a week ago and seemingly wanted to think about it before tackling a review. Can I whip up a short one… there’s a challenge for me.
Terrific plotting as ever, and there was a sublime balance achieved, as the storyline slipped between 1970ies Leipzig and Reykjavik in early 2000nds. It just didn’t jar and despite being a convoluted tale, it was possible to follow it with ease. Nice also to follow Erlendur Sveinsson’s interactions with his colleagues, Elinborg and Sigurdur Oli and keep in touch with his daughter Eva Lind even though hers is not such a jolly tale.
Erlendur’s acquisition of the Ford Falcon somehow seemed just so right! This was a pleasurable read, nice to have had the opportunity thanks Cassiopaeia.

Hello to Cassiopaeia, this is just to let you know, when you return from your hols, that bookfrogster has THE DRAINING LAKE at present. Bookfrogster’s eyes lit up when she saw it at the Edinburgh BookCrossers Book Festival meeting this afternoon, where I had taken it in the hope of passing it to scotsbookie, as we had discussed. As you know I was hoping to see scotsbookie at that meeting, but as she had not replied to my PM I did not know if she would be there. [PM only sent on the 13th Aug, maybe scotsbookie is also on holiday?]
Anyhow, I was holding THE DRAINING LAKE when bookfrogster caught sight of it and her eyes simply shone with interest! So I encouraged her to have it as I have not yet head from scotsbookie and I thought you would be happy to have another reader joining in on the journaling of it! I shall PM scotsbookie again to let her know bookfrogster has it now, should she still be interested in reading it. Cheers rainbow3

Have already read about a third of this, so should be finished very soon in order to send to scotsbookie or back to cassiopaeia. Good story so far.

Having been mainly reading American adn British crime fiction for a wee while, it was good to get a dose of Scandinavian murder, if you see what I mean, as the writing style is so different. I did enjoy this one. I've PMed scotsbookie to let her know it's available.
Thanks everyone, this is now with me.
