This is most definitively one of the three best books I’ve read this year. I just couldn’t put it down. This is SO my type of the novel. Out Stealing Horses is a poignant and moving tale of a changing perspective on the world, from youthful innocence to the difficult acceptance of betrayal, and of nostalgia for a simpler way of life.

“Petterson catches so effectively the thing that haunts all of us, the knowledge of how fragile life is … Surprising and breathtaking” – Daily Express

I’ve read this novel months ago but while typing this I’m starting to have a jitters. I’ve found myself reading this book very emotional (on personal level) and I’ve just awoke that emotion.

I'm giving 10 stars very rarely but this novel deserved every single one of them! Oh I have one copy in my permanent collections as well (if that means anything to you).
Highly, highly recommended!

Hi zzz... looks like I got a bunch of books from you today! Including Persepolis sent via Rootmartin. And come to think of it, despite us playing in quite a few swaps and vbb together, this is the first time I receive a book from you (indeed it is, just did a search on BC to confirm).
I am really glad I won this in the swap. I had it on 4th steal and didn't quite expect to be able to hold on to it till the end. Thank you!

While I have a bit of trouble following the narration as it jumps around the timeline (it's often a few lines or paragraphs in before I find orientation), I love the sparse, lyrical writing which evokes the remoteness and coldness of the Norwegian forest (or rather, as I've never been there, I imagine what it must be like.) As the story unfolds, bits and pieces of what happened to Trond as a teen slowly come out, and together with snippets of his present life as a reclusive old man, forms a beautiful, if a bit meandering, story.

Thanks zzz for sharing it!!
